Make a Tripod

2 02 2009

A nice sturdy tripod is great, but there are times you need a tripod and just want to  use a mini tripod. You can make several different styles of “tripods”. I have made one that is just a bottle cap with a bolt going through it. Another one I’ve made has bendable legs you can wrap around things or just set them up as a regular tripod. I’ve also made one with string.

All of these tripods are cheap and easy to make. These are meant for small point and shoot cameras and are not recommended for huge dSLRs, although I am sure that if you used stronger materials they would be more structurally sound.

Update 8: Picture-in-a-Picture

7 01 2009

I decided to use a picture if my other Grandma instead of my cousin to continue the Pict-in-a-Pict project. I will probably use my cousin in one of the next pictures but I wanted to extend it into the other side of my family. Anyway I don’t consider this to be one of the best pictures of my grandma because I don’t like using flash.

Look at my Slide Show!

This is just a slideshow I made up with some of my favorite pictures I took.

Free E-Books

7 12 2008

I’ve been looking at different websites that offer free ebooks. All of these books are in the public domain which means they were published before 1923 or the author gave it a Creative Commons License. My favorite eBook site is Feedbooks.com which is a search engine type website where you can download books in five different formats (ePub, Mobipocket/Kindle, PDF, Sony Reader, and iLiad). It gets the source from different websites like gutenberg.org or wikisource.  I’ve found some interesting books here such as “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” by The Brothers Grimm, and “The Time Machine” by H.G.Wells. There are also some newer but lesser know books on here too. All of these books are totally free of charge and can be viewed on many different devices.

It’s Opening Day

15 11 2008

If you didn’t now already it is opening day of gun season for deer. My dad really likes to go hunting so we went out this morning we encountered a deer within the first hour but much to our surprise we must have been on the trail he was following, snorted at us as it bounded away. We found out that the place we were hunting would make it easy for the deer to go onto someone else’s property if it didn’t just drop.

So we searched for a new spot. Seeing there were cars at every spot my dad had planned for us to go we circled the State Land in search for a less populated parking spot. We finally found it after a little driving. I had forgotten my license before this so we had to make a detour before this back home. We went out for a while and sat for about two hours waiting for our deer to come through but it never did. My dad started walking around the property and I followed. After seeing mostly no sign of animals (incuding the hunters we had seen before) and after being attacked by rose thorns we started back.

We had a good time out there and I had a lot of fun (although I passed on another run). We didn’t get anything but we were out there for the better half of the morning.

Phoenix Dies

10 11 2008

The bird that came from the ashes has now been frozen alive. It officially died at 5:10 PM EST. It was announced via Twitter which was fitting since it produced its last “tweet” (for now anyway) even though Phoenix itself didn’t post it.

Sunset Photography

2 11 2008

I wrote an article on Triond.com yesterday and thought you might like to see it. It has to do with sunset photography, which if you hadn’t noticed yet is getting extremely beautiful because the sunlight has to go through more atmosphere to get to you and in turn this creates the pinkish hue on the clouds. You can read more about it at Quazen.com. I hope you enjoy the article.

We went Camping!!!

28 09 2008

S6302404I hope everyone had fun at our camping trip. I got some pictures of it but since most of the pictures I took are on my grandpa’s camera, so I have a severe lack of pictures. Here are some of mine though.

This picture is of the “pizza” making process they set up out there. They’re just toasted pizza sandwiches. One thing that happens a lot is an over production of pizza con champiñon, but other than that it is fun to watch them make it. Just be sure to stand back when they bring the irons through, that would hurt.

The next picture is of my cousin Tessa’s bird. She made it out of a milkweed pod and some sticks. She was proud of her bird, but her teacher may dispute if she is done or not.

Here is Lydia, she was really sad because I wouldn’t do something for her. I don’t remember what she wanted and she wouldn’t remember either. It looks like she is crying more than she was.

This has got to be the thing we do the most when we go camping, just sitting and enjoying other peoples company. We spend most of the mornings, just sitting and listening to stories we have heard many times before.

I’m back, or am I?

17 09 2008

I’m sorry I haven’t written anything in a while, school was getting in the way of my learning. I will hopefully start blogging in about a week. We are going on a camping trip this weekend so there is no way to blog from there. While I am there I will be taking pictures and will share them next week. I will probably have a new picture-in-a-picture next week too. So stay tuned this blog is not dead yet…

-(TBC)

Update 7: Picture-in-a-Picture

31 08 2008

Here is the next picture in the series, this is of my cousin who will be starting school on Tuesday. She didn’t really understand the concept of why we were doing this but she played along fine.
